Opal L. Jacobson, 98, of Albert Lea died peacefully at home on Monday, April 29, 2013.
Opal was born on Nov. 24, 1914, to Walter and Louise (Dahl) Christianson, in Manly, Iowa. She graduated from Albert Lea High School and comptometer school in Minneapolis. She married Freeman N. Jacobson in 1947. They had two children. Opal worked in the office of Wilson & Co. in Albert Lea for many years, full time and part time after her children were born. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Clarks Grove for many years where she taught Sunday school and served on the Board of Deacons under two pastorates. Later she and her family joined the First Baptist Church of Albert Lea where she was active in Women’s Circle. Opal enjoyed gardening, reading, rug weaving, fishing at the cabin and traveling.
She loved the out-of-doors and being with her family and friends. Opal had a good sense of humor and maintained a very positive attitude toward life preferring to count her blessings rather than her troubles. She was devoted to the Lord, her husband and her family.
Survivors include her son, John Jacobson of Albert Lea; daughter, Judith and son-in-law Jeffrey Thomas of Nappanee, Ind. Also surviving is a brother, Robert Christianson of Albert Lea; and many nieces, nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Freeman in 2009; brother, Marlin Christianson; and sisters, Pearl (George) Bothum, Helen (L. Herbert) Peterson and Florence (John) Muldoon.
Interment will be at the Clarks Grove cemetery at 1 p.m. Friday. The memorial service will follow at First Baptist Church of Albert Lea at 2:30 p.m. The Rev. Clayton Balsley will officiate. Memorials may be given to First Baptist Church. Online condolences are welcome at www.bayviewfuneral.com.
