Organ concerts Saturday

The southeast Minnesota chapter of the American Guild of Organists will be participating in the celebration and commemoration of the 850th anniversary of the installation of the first organ in the Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Paris in the 13th century. The AGO chapter will host simultaneous events at several locations in southeast Minnesota on Sunday.
The three free concerts will be at 3 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Owatonna, Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Austin and at Central Lutheran Church in Winona.
Performers will include Brian Williams and Matthew Lehman of Rochester, Erik Floan of Winona, James Hamman of Iowa, Ryan Hulshizer of Northwood and Neal Erickson of Austin. In addition, an organ crawl to see and hear the organs in the churches in Chatfield will be at 3:30 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church hosted by Charles Whitcomb.
All are welcome to attend.
Variety show slated at Bolan Schoolhouse
A variety show will take place at 7 p.m. May 11 at the Bolan Schoolhouse in Kensett, Iowa, in the restored Barton No. 2 schoolhouse building.
The community of Bolan has a population of 21 and an active United Methodist Church.
Historical records show the Worth County Barton Township school building will be 90 years old this year.
An area-wide chorus has been rehearsing under the direction of Merlin Bartz with accompanists Margaret Krumm, Mary Wendt and Ryan Hulshizer. They are preparing to share sing-along school songs, oldies, spiritual favorites and patriotic selections.
Children and teens from the St. Ansgar, Northwood-Kensett and Central Springs school districts will be performing vocal, instrumental, dance and speech performances. Refreshments will follow the show.
