Power is returning for many customers

The number of Alliant Energy customers in Freeborn County without power is down to 202. And Freeborn-Mower Cooperative Services customers in its two-county area without power has dropped to 257.

Both totals are what their outage websites were showing as of 11:30 a.m. Friday. Both totals are improvements over Thursday, when thousands were without electricity.

Alliant Energy has 12,335 customers in Freeborn County. Here is a timeline of customers without power:

• 5 a.m. Thursday: 1,335

• 5:15 a.m.: 2,556

• 6 a.m.: 2,982

• 8 a.m.: 1,004

• 9:30 a.m.: 2,696

• 11:30 a.m.: 830

• 1 p.m.: 2,110

• 2:30 p.m.: 1,126

• 4:30 p.m.: 638

• 6:50 a.m. Friday: 224

Early Friday, readers on the north side of Albert Lea reported hearing a loud bang, followed by their power going out.

Freeborn-Mower Cooperative Services serves 5,969 customers in its two-county area. Here is a timeline of its customers without power:

• 6 a.m. Thursday: 196

• 8 a.m.: 390

• 9:30 a.m.: 542

• 11:30 a.m.: 795

• 1 p.m.: 795

• 2:30 p.m.: 760

• 4:30 p.m.: 761

• 6:50 a.m. Friday: 577

Freeborn-Mower’s website has this statement: “We’re experiencing various widespread outages in our area. Please call us if you’re experiencing an outage or if you see a downed power line. We can be reached at 1-800-734-6421 or 507-373-6421. You may also call our outage number at 1-800-927-6201 and listen to the entire recording to better serve you. Our linemen are working to restore everyone as quickly as they can. Please stay safe.”
