The Albert Lea baseball team took down fellow Big Nine Conference opponent Mankato East 4-3 Tuesday with some seventh-inning heroics.

The Tigers fought back from a one-run deficit in the fourth inning by scoring two runs. Johnathan Fleek crossed home plate by beating out an infield hit, and Makael Lunning scored on a hit by Lucas Hansen, Albert Lea head coach Joe Sczublewski said.

Mankato East knotted the score at two in the sixth inning and took a one-run lead in the top of the seventh.

However, the Tigers clawed back in the bottom of the inning. A lead-off double deep to center field by Wyatt Paulsen started Albert Lea’s at-bats.

Paulsen scored on a double by fellow sophomore E.J. Thomas. Thomas scored the game-winning run on a walk-off hit by Dylan See-Rockers, Sczublewski said.

Albert Lea and Owatonna are tied for first place in the conference standings with one Big Nine loss each.
