The Albert Lea boys’ tennis team headed into the Big Nine Conference tournament in ninth place. The Tigers left tied with Mankato West for sixth.

“Our guys had a great day,” Albert Lea head coach Tom Dyrdal said. “We were able to score points at each spot in the lineup, which was the key to moving up in the team results.”

The conference champion is crowned with points earned throughout the season.

“It’s based on points from dual matches and the conference meet,” Dyrdal said.

No. 4 singles player Cole Keyeski earned a third place medal — the top finish for the Tigers.

No. 2 singles player Taylor Herfindahl and No. 3 singles player Darik Weigel earned fourth at their positions, while Trevor Herfindahl, the Tigers’ No. 1 singles player, avenged a loss to Faribault’s No. 1 player earlier this year.

No. 1 doubles duo Kyle Zogg and Carter Dahl finished fourth.

“I’m very proud of our effort and the attitude our guys showed during the meet,” Dyrdal said.

Next, Albert Lea plays Tuesday at the Section 1AA tournament. Times have not been finalized.
