Morin Lake Days is this weekend

ALDEN — Morin Lake Days in Alden will honor the community’s hometown heroes from Friday through Sunday.

The celebration will begin at noon Friday, with the start of a medallion hunt at City Hall.

In the afternoon will be a fishing contest at Morin Lake, followed by a Cub Scout and Boy Scout supper and other activities. The day will end with a free family show in the Alden-Conger School Blackhawk gym.

Events on Saturday begin with the Legion pancake breakfast and the Morin Lake Days Fun Run, in which participants can take part in a 10k, a 3-mile run or a 1-mile run/walk. Cost to participate is $15.

In the afternoon there will be family activities, including canoe races, inflatable fun by the lake and other activities.

New this year, said organizer Ann Bryson, is caricatures and face painting by Justin and Whitney Wilder.

The parade, which recognizes the Alden Fire Department and first responders as the grand marshals, begins at 7 p.m., followed by a classic car cruise and show.

Also in the evening will be street dances and a fireworks show at dusk.

The weekend wraps up with a pancake breakfast and worship service Sunday and softball tournament.

Organizers are accepting donations to defray costs.

Friday

• Noon: Medallion hunt begins (clues posted on front door of City Hall)

• 1 to 3 p.m.: Lions Club fishing contest at Morin Lake

• 1 to 4 p.m. Community museum open for self-guided tours

• 5 to 7:30 p.m. Supper by the lake

• 5 to 7:30 p.m. Kiddie carnival by the lake

• 7 p.m.: Kiddie tractor pull

• Evening: Softball tournament or homerun hitting contest

• 8:30 p.m.: Free family show at the Alden-Conger Blackhawk gym

 

Saturday

• All day: Softball, volleyball tournaments, food stands

• 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.: Coffee and treats served at United Methodist Church

• 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.: American Legion pancake breakfast

• 9 a.m.: Morin Lake Days Fun Run starts at Hemmingsen’s Transfer parking lot

• 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Community museum open for self-guided tours

• 2 p.m.: Alden-Conger Music Department Concessions

• 2 to 4 p.m.: Canoe races and activities on the lake

• 2:30 to 6:30 p.m.: Inflatable fun by the lake

• 7 p.m.: Parade, followed by Lions Club pie and ice cream social at Alden City Hall

• 8 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.: American Legion street dance

• 8:30 p.m. to midnight: Teen Street dance

• Dusk: Fireworks

 

Sunday

• 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.: Lions Club pancake breakfast

• 9:30 a.m. Worship by the water

• 1 p.m.: Fireman tournament at Alden-Conger Football Field

• 1 to 4 p.m. Community museum open for self-guided tours

• All day: Softball tournament and food stands
