Bee die-off needs more attention

I commend the Tribune for calling attention to the ongoing devastation of dwindling bee populations on May 30. Aside from growing your own flowering plants, however, no proactive interventions were laid out for the reader.
Find out more. Write blog posts and letters to the editor such as this and call for change. Contact local and state representatives, urging Congress and the EPA to take action. Keep your own lawn and garden pesticide free and provide food, water, and shelter for bees. The EPA and USDA saying that there is not enough evidence to impose restrictions is abominable, as numerous studies have proven that neonicotinoids — among other pesticides — ARE linked to bee die-off and colony collapse disorder. Our ecosystem is at stake and the public MUST act now. I implore every reader to use their voice to educate, influence, an effect a change that promotes sustainability.
