LIBERTY TOWNSHIP — Tactical officers arrested an armed man at a home near Bemidji following a standoff that lasted more than four hours.
Police say the man was taken to an area hospital by helicopter. His condition wasn’t released. Officers were called to the home in Liberty Township about 5 p.m. Wednesday. Authorities say the man was armed with a rifle and threatened to shoot officers if they entered the home.
Highway 89 was closed for more than two hours as Beltrami County sheriff’s deputies tried coaxing the man out of the home.
Deputies moved family members and media farther away from the scene after a shot was fired.
SWAT team members finally entered the home about 9 p.m. and arrested the man.
