ST. PAUL — As Minnesota schools let out for the summer, the Department of Natural Resources has launched a new website to encourage them to spend their vacation outdoors.
“Get Out Minnesota” is a new Legacy Amendment-funded website aimed at kids ages 5 through 11. It uses games and interactive tools to educate them about Minnesota’s natural outdoor world.
While it uses computers to draw children to the Minnesota State Parks and Trails website, it also encourages them to unplug and get away from their computers and other electronic devices and to spend that time outdoors.
The DNR is offering free admission at all Minnesota state parks and recreation areas on Saturday in conjunction with National Get Outdoors Day. Many special programs will also take place at parks that day.
