Evelyn Beenken, 92, Albert Lea

Evelyn Mary Beenken died on Thursday, June 20, 2013, at St. John’s Lutheran Home. She was 92 years old. Private family services will be held at Graceland Cemetery in Albert Lea. Bonnerup Funeral Services will be assisting the family with arrangements.
Evelyn Mary O’Rourke was born Dec. 4, 1920, to Michael and Sophie O’Rourke in Keene, N.D. At a young age she moved with her family to Lake Mills. Evelyn was baptized and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church and attended Lake Mills public school. After Evelyn finished school, she worked at the Lake Mills Canning Factory.
On April 24, 1942, Evelyn was united in marriage to Eugene Beenken in Northwood. After marriage, they made their home in Albert Lea, where both worked at Wilson & Co. With this union came two children, Gregory and Barbara.
Evelyn was a longtime member of Salem Lutheran Church. Evelyn and Eugene were both custodians of the church when their children grew up.
Evelyn is survived by her son, Gregory Beenken; grandson, Logan (Meredith) Beenken; granddaughter, Kelly Reichl and friend Joe Smith; and great-grandchildren, Mallory and Markus Dempewolf.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Sophie; husband, Eugene; daughter, Barbara Reichl; brothers, Melvin, James, Orville, Dan and Joe; and sisters, Mary Ann, Opal, Katherine and Gladys.
Evelyn was a kind loving wife, mother, grandmother and aunt. She will be greatly missed.

At Evelyn’s request, there is not a service scheduled. Her family will have a private sermon and prayer along with many treasured memories.
