Marvin William Steinhauer, 90, of Walters, born on home place five miles west of Walters, died Tuesday, June 4, 2013. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the United Lutheran Church in Walters. The Rev. Don Rose will officiate and the interment will be in Rice Lake Cemetery. Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells is in charge of arrangements.

Marvin was born April 23, 1923, the son of William and Lydia (Meyer) Steinhauer in Foster Township, Faribault Co. He was baptized in the little white church west of Walters. He was married June 10, 1942, to Donna Barnick, of Wells. The couple had three children together, Larry Steinhauer, Ruth Ann and Randy. Many years later the couple divorced. In 1963 he started a fertilizer business in Walters and bought one-fourths interest in the plant. The original plant was on the Frost corner, where the name was derived. They did not add S for Steinhauer to the plant name because it would have changed to WIMS or SWIM. In March of 1966, Iverson sold out and the fall of that year Wendt sold out so Harlan Maland and Marvin owned the company half and half. They both then started the propane business in the fall of 1966.

In the February of 1974, Marvin had a farm sale and his sons took over the farming. In 1980, Marvin and Harland separated their business and Marvin took the plant in Walters while Harland took the plant on Frost corner. Marvin married Mary (Henry) Baumgardener in 1992 and lived on the home farm until 1999 when they moved to Albert Lea. He continued to operate the plant in Walters until he was 82 years old. He sold the propane business to Randy and the fertilizer business to Paul More.

In Marvin’s retirement he kept busy taking care of his dog, Holly, keeping track of the farming operation that he shared crop with Randy and watching the farm markets. He also enjoyed sharing tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers with his neighbors from his garden.

Marvin is survived by his sons, Larry (Jean) Steinhauer of Wells and Randy (Monica) Steinhauer of Walters; and son-in-law, Arlowe Haugen of Lakeville; 10 grandchildren, Kevin (Alison) Steinhauer of Frost, Tim Steinhauer of Aitken, Daniel (Danielle) Steinhauer of Frost, Brent (Tanya) Haugen, of Aitken, Brandon Haugen of Rosemount, Lexi (special friend Jason) Haugen of Apple Valley, Ann (Jeff) Olson of Stewartville, Lee (special friend Hilary Wacholz) Steinhauer of Minnetonka, Lon (Jill) Steinhauer of Bricelyn and Amy Williams of Albert Lea; also, his 18 great-grandchildren, Matt Krause, Laura Steinhauer, Mya and Mason Steinhauer, Jordan, Donovan, Ellie, Hannah and Ruby Haugen, Skylar Stamper, Joshua Haugan, Nathaniel Haugen, Tanner, Hunter and Karley Olson, Macy Williams and Brody and Carter Steinhauer; also survived are several in-laws, nieces, nephews and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary; his daughter, Ruth Ann Steinhauer; sisters, Laura (in infancy) and Helen Nelson; and his grandson, Wade.
