Outstanding Senior Citizen Award nominees sought

Nominations for county residents are now being sought for the 2013 Outstanding Senior Citizen Award for Freeborn County. The award recognizes outstanding senior citizens who have contributed their time and talent to benefit their community after reaching the age of 65. They will be honored at the Freeborn County Fair on July 31.

The official nominations are available at Senior Resources, Skyline Plaza, Senior Court and the Freeborn County Fair office. Nomination forms are also available online at www.mnstatefair.org by clicking on the recognition programs link at the bottom of the home page.

Nominees must meet the following criteria:

• A resident of Minnesota

• Volunteer service must be accomplished after reaching the age of 65

• Nominee must be 70 years old by June 1

• Nominee must currently be involved with a volunteer activity that is unpaid and demonstrates a commitment to their local community

• With a new nomination form, previous county winners are eligible as long as they have not been chosen as a state winner

• Only one individual may be nominated per nomination forms. Couples nominations will be disqualified

• Nominations must be submitted to the fair office by July 15

Winners selected and recognized at the fair will be entered into the State Outstanding Senior Citizen Award competition. Outstanding seniors will be recognized for their service at the award ceremony at the Minnesota State Fair on Senior Day, Aug. 29.
