Power went out in parts of Albert Lea shortly before noon. According to Alliant Energy’s website, 1,585 customers lost power, out of the 12,337 customers served in Freeborn County.

Power was restored at 12:18 p.m., said Alliant Energy spokesman Justin Foss.

A motor vehicle struck a guy wire for a power pole along Wedgewood Drive, he said. There was enough force that the guy wire flew into the power lines above.

Power was out mainly on the west side of Albert Lea, but it could have affected other parts, too.

“It’s a pretty big circuit,” Foss said.

He noted that the driver would have had to leave the roadway somehow to strike the guy wire.
