You Can Help

The following are some of the volunteer opportunities currently open in Freeborn County. If you can help with these or would like to volunteer for others, call Pat Stumme, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program director, at Senior Resources, 377-7433.
Art and Garden Tour: The Albert Lea Art Center welcomes volunteer hosts for their tours coming up from 4 to 7 p.m. June 28 and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 29. Several openings are available in the garden of your choice or for volunteering in the Art on Broadway gift shop during the same times. If you would like to welcome summer in a beautiful garden, please call the Art Center at 373-5665 to sign up today.
Freeborn County Historical Museum: Volunteers are welcome to assist at the historical museum’s pioneer village in June and July, cleaning and moving as necessary. Bring your own rubber gloves and they’ll supply the projects. You’ll make a difference to the community and probably have some fun and even coffee while you work. Call Pat Mulso at 373-8003 to set up times when you are available.
June is National Safety Month: Take some time this month to check out your home or the home of a senior in your life and make it a safer place. To prevent falls, the National Safety Council makes these recommendations:
• Secure electrical and phone cords out of traffic areas
• Remove small throw rugs or use non-skid mats to keep them from slipping
• Remove tripping hazards (paper, boxes, clothes, shoes) from stairs and walkways
• Check the condition of walkways and steps, and repair damages immediately
• Never stand on a chair, table or other surface on wheels
• Clean up all spills immediately
RSVP, a program of Senior Resources of Freeborn County, receives some funds through the United Way of Freeborn County, the Minnesota Board on Aging and the Corporation for National and Community Service.
