Dorothy Thompson, 89, New Richland

Funeral services for Dorothy E. Thompson of New Richland will be at 2 p.m. today at the LeSueur River Lutheran Church in New Richland. The Rev. Brian Gegel will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the LeSueur River Lutheran Cemetery.

Mrs. Thompson died Monday evening, July 29, 2013, at the Owatonna Hospital in Owatonna. She was 89 years of age.

Dorothy was born July 19, 1924, in Waseca County, the daughter of Palmer and Jeanette (Brecke) Hagen. She graduated from New Richland High School in 1942. On Feb. 14, 1943, she was united in marriage to Henry O. Thompson. She lived in the New Richland area all of her life, and the past six years at Clarebridge in Owatonna.

Dorothy was an active member of the LeSueur River Lutheran Church where she was baptized and confirmed. She farmed for many years with her husband just west of the church. Dorothy was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed cooking, baking, camping and old-time dancing. Her grandchildren held a special place in her heart.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Paula and her husband David Routh of New Richland and Kristi and her husband Steve Holstad of Albertville; grandchildren, Schuyler Routh, Jesse (Kristine) Routh and their children Brock, Avery, Brynn and Cooper, Lucas Routh and fiancee Kelsey Boyd, Troy (JoAnn) Thompson and their children Jade and Brandon, Jennifer Ericksson, Robyn (Nate) Holmberg and their children Grace and Bradley, Maren Holstad and Jeremy (Brooke) Jacobson and their children Charlie and Nora, and Thor Holstad.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Henry; and son, Curt.
