DULUTH — A bald eagle has been found dead two months after surviving a crash landing with another eagle onto a runway at a northeastern Minnesota airport.

The male eagle was found ensnared in fishing line along the St. Louis River on Monday evening.

Wildlife biologist Mike Schrage of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa said one of the band’s conservation officers found the dead eagle.

The eagle was wearing a band on one leg.

The band number confirmed the bird was one of two eagles found with their talons entangled May 12 when they crashed to the tarmac at Duluth International Airport.

The bird found in the fishing line was treated at the Raptor Center in St. Paul, banded and released June 12.
