Lodge Zare Zapadu No. 44

One June 26 the Western Fraternal Life Association Lodge Zare Zapadu enjoyed a special meal of barbecue ribs expertly prepared by the lodge president, Dan Rayman. Members brought salads and trimmings to make a fabulous dinner. The lodge had a congratulatory cake made to honor its secretary, Marie Krikava, who received the Western Fraternal Life Association 2013 Fraternalist of the Year Award at the Minnesota state meeting. They also presented her with a beautiful bouquet of red roses.

President Rayman opened the meeting following dinner. Dan Belshan gave a report on the Brick Hall buttons being sold for the Czech festival on Sept. 21. He also reported on the progress of the veterans memorial being installed at the Bohemian National Cemetery near the group’s hall.

Linda Baier made and donated the posters for the Czech festival in memory of her father, Roger Baier, who was such a worker and supporter of the lodge.

Dick and Faye Madson donated a beautiful porcelain tea set from the Czech Republic for the silent auction at the festival. Lodge No. 44 had three delegates, Roger Rayman, Alton Krikava and Marie Krikava at the Minnesota state meeting in Alexandria on June 22 and 23. The lodge sold raffles and donated the raffle money to scholarships.

Lodge No. 44 collected can tabs all year and donated 250 pounds of can tabs to the Ronald McDonald House in Rochester.

A special thanks to Georgia Jech for the 100 pounds she brought in and for all the work the Rayman family did collecting tabs and delivering them.

Members were told not to forget to mark the calendar for the Czech festival at the Brick Hall on Sept. 21 featuring music by the Dan Stursa Band along with raffles, a silent auction, food and drink and more.
