50 years ago – 1963

• Myron Hoffman pitched a complete game two-hitter with 13 strike outs for the Albert Lea Packers in their 8-0 Southern Minnesota League baseball win over Mason City. Catcher Dan Fogel had two hits for the Packers.

• In the National Division of the Albert Lea Softball League, Zion Lutheran defeated Trinity Lutheran 10-3. Bill Buhr had three hits, and John Willmert threw a three-hitter for Zion.

• In first round playoff action in the Albert Lea Slow Pitch League, the Tribune defeated Interstate 15-3, and Scotsman was won over Church Offset 6-4. Ron Burkhow, John Polis, Al Schmahl and Mike Stiles each had three hits for the Tribune. The Tribune lost in the second round to Malepsy Realty 11-2. Dick Hromako was the winning pitcher and Del Hovey and Bill Malepsy each had two hits for Malepsy.

25 years ago – 1988

• At the annual 4H softball tournament, Myrtle won the Older Mixed Championship. Team members were Brian Wolff, Michelle Rohne, Derek Nelson, Brenda Mittag, Mike Heideman, Sara Foss, Lani Davis, Bruce Rohne and Joe Foss.

• Mark Wedin had two hits and Mark Stonebach was the winning pitcher for the Alden American Legion baseball team in their 7-6 victory over Mankato.

• The Glenville-Emmons American Legion baseball team defeated the Albert Lea VFW 14-4. Jamie Beck picked up the win. Tim Kral had three hits and Brian Yost had two for Glenville-Emmons.

10 years ago – 2003

• The Albert Lea Union Center 12-and-under traveling baseball team qualified for the state tournament. Team members included Cole Sorenson, Conner Kortan, Cory Hansen, Carter Kortan, Cody Hansen, Logan Kortan, Jordan Cooper, Brock Casterton, Jared Talamantes, Tyler Brackey, Nick Flores and Aaron Klatt.

• The Albert Lea U18 girls’ soccer team finished second in league play and received a No.2 seed in district play. Team members were Nikki Allard, Kelly Cook, Nicole Gilbertson, Steph Overgaard, Amy Ravenhorst, Liz Reynen, Shawnna Robertson, Sydney Staloch, Brie Woitas, Mandy Ardolf, Emily Bergstrom, Katie Dooley, Char Everhart, Amy Marka, Lacey Pederson, Brianne Plantage, Missy Reichl, Crystal Rentz, Emily Staloch and Katie Stenseth.
