Funeral services for Alice Johnson will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Calvary Baptist Church. The Rev. Clayton Balsley will officiate. Interment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Online condolences are welcome at www.bayviewfuneral.com.

Alice Fay Johnson, 90, died on Friday, Aug. 16, 2013, at St. John’s Lutheran Home after a brief illness.

Alice was born in Lone Rock, Iowa, and grew up in Lake Crystal. She married August Johnson on Oct. 27, 1943. In 1955 they moved to Albert Lea where they were members of Calvary Baptist Church. Alice became well-known in the community for her handmade dolls, especially her Raggedy Anns and Andys. She started making them in 1960, and was still sewing until her recent illness.

Alice is survived by her daughters, Judith Johnson, Jeanne (David) Sumnicht and Diane (Mike) Vietor; five grandchildren, Cory (Jing) Yun and their children Dylan and Emma, Chad Vietor, Sara (Jamey) Anderson and their children Alexis, J.D. and Jacey, Katie (Brian) Bispala and their children Sydney August, Aidan and Libby Alice, Matthew (Katie) Sumnicht and their son Evan; and her sister Nadine (Luverne) Meier.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 65 years, August Johnson; and two sisters.

Memorials preferred to St. Marys Hospital, cardiac care, Calvary Baptist Church or donor’s choice.
