Hog roast, golf, street party lead 3-day weekend

A hog roast Sunday will benefit the Freeborn Area Cancer Auction.

The event starts at 4 p.m. at TB3’s Bar in Freeborn. Menu includes pork sandwich and fixings, coleslaw, sweet corn and dessert. Cost is $7 for adults, $4 for children and free for children age 3 and younger.

Music and karaoke will be provided by RAHK. Activities for children and adults start at 2 p.m.

The event is a fundraiser, and proceeds go toward the area cancer auction. The annual auction held in November donates to the 5th District Eagles Cancer Telethon.

 

Friday

• The Pelican Breeze II will hold a brats and burger night. The cruise leaves at 6 p.m., and reservations are needed by 4 p.m. by calling Albert Lea Parks & Rec at 377-4370. Cost is $20, and Green Mill will be serving food and beverages.

 

Saturday

• The 86th annual Shortstop Tournament begins and lasts through Monday at Green Lea Golf Course. Qualification with assigned tee times starts at 7:30 a.m. Low 16 qualifiers will comprise the championship flight and play 18-hole matches Sunday and Monday. Other flights qualify Saturday and play 9-hole matches Sunday and Monday. The event is limited to the first 128 paid entries, and only those age 21 and older can enter.

• The Albert Lea Farmers Market will be open from 9 a.m. to noon in the North Broadway parking lot.

• A new street party will begin at 11 a.m. on North Broadway. The American Legion hosts a lunch of burgers, brats, hot dogs, malts and beers outside with a full bar indoors. Signup for a bean bag tournament begins at 3 p.m. Entertainment will be provided by Arlin & Butch from 3 to 7 p.m. and by Ron & Steve from 8 p.m. to midnight. There will also be children’s activities throughout the day.

 

Sunday

• The Alden American Legion hosts a breakfast from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Menu includes pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage links and a beverage. Cost is $5, and children age 6 and younger eat free.

• The Golden K1 Kiwanis hosts a Dad’s Belgian waffle breakfast from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Fairlane Building at the Freeborn County Fairgrounds. Cost is $7 for adults, $5 for students age 6 to 18, and free for children age 5 and younger.

• The 86th annual Shortstop Tournament continues at Green Lea Golf Course. A buffet dinner will be at 6 p.m.

 

Labor Day

• The 86th annual Shortstop Tournament enters its final day at Green Lea Golf Course. This day usual has the most spectators.

• The Bayside Ski Club hosts a show at 2 p.m. at Edgewater Bay. There’s no cost to attend, but donations are welcome.
