AUSTIN — A Lyle man accused of holding a woman inside a home, pulling her dentures out, taking her glasses and trying to remove her pacemaker has pleaded not guilty to six criminal charges in Mower County District Court.

Carl Ray Jackson, 57, pleaded not guilty to kidnapping, third-degree assault with great bodily harm, terroristic threats and false imprisonment, all felonies, and a gross misdemeanor for interfering with a 911 call and misdemeanor domestic assault.

The victim said Jackson would not let her leave the house on Oct. 22, according to the court complaint. The victim reported the assault in December to the Mower County Sheriff’s Office and told the Lyle police chief in January that Jackson pushed her around the house, blocked the door when she tried to leave and took her phone when she tried to call 911. The victim said Jackson took her glasses and pulled her dentures out, which left her with scrapes to her gums. She added Jackson then tried to pull her pacemaker out of her skin, which caused pain “way past 10,” according to the complaint.

The woman was eventually able to escape and run to a neighbor’s house for help. The complaint added the pacemaker recorded an elevated heart rate during the alleged assault, and the woman had to replace the damaged device.

Jackson has a pretrial set for Nov. 22.
