ST. PAUL — Minnesota farms are getting wired.

New data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture show that 71 percent of Minnesota farms now own or lease a computer, a slight increase from 2011. That figure is 4 percentage points higher than the national percentage.

Minnesota farms using computers for the farm business rose to 51 percent in 2013, up 8 percentage points from 2011 and 11 points higher than the U.S. percentage.

Seventy percent of Minnesota farms have Internet access, with DSL being by far the most common form of service. Forty-three percent of Minnesota farms use DSL, compared with 35 percent nationwide.
