Drive-in entertainment lives on right on the other side of the state border.
For the 42nd year, Mona and Six Mile Grove Lutheran churches will hold “Honking for Jesus,” an outdoor musical ministry series. The event starts at 7:30 p.m. Sunday evenings through Aug. 18 in Mona, Iowa, one mile south of Lyle.
The concerts will be held on the east lawn and parking lot of the Mona Lutheran Church in Mona, Iowa. The audience is invited to drive up in their cars, park and listen to music. Following a performance, guests are invited to honk instead of applaud.
The Rev. Einar Unseth started the musical ministry in the summer of 1972, when an old chicken coop was refurbished and set up on a platform.
The event mostly brings people from southern Minnesota and northern Iowa, but some visitors are from as far away as California, Mexico and Nebraska.
A donation will be collected to support the event.
