Playground now is for everybody

Halverson Elementary School students and PTO have achieved their three-year-long goal of raising funds for a new playground system. With the help of the Albert Lea community and the Special Education Advisory Council, the school has raised more than $42,000 for the adaptive equipment.

The drive for the playground was to have an area that is handicapped-accessible for all students and family regardless of their physical ability. PTO President Lisa Smith said it was a huge accomplishment for Halverson students.

Students have done an annual Walk-A-Thon, community benefit nights at local restaurants, fun nights and even a pennies for the playground fundraiser to help out. The playground is set to be installed this week, and the ribbon cutting ceremony will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the new playground. This is following our annual Walk-A-Thon event! The Albert Lea community is invited to join them in their celebration.
