The Albert Lea girls’ soccer team continued to climb the Big Nine Conference ladder Thursday with a 3-1 home win over Rochester Century.
In the last seven games, the Tigers are 6-0-1, and in the last 10 days, Albert Lea has defeated three schools from Rochester: John Marshall, Mayo and now Century.
“It’s an astonishing achievement,” Albert Lea head coach Rick Barnhill said. “Rochester and Mankato are ideal breeding grounds for their schools to dominate, where affluence and facilities weigh as heavy advantages.”
Century took a 1-0 lead, but Albert Lea scored three unanswered goals as Becca Dup found the net twice and Brooke Hanson scored on a free kick.
Albert Lea (9-3-1 overall, 5-1-1 Big Nine) moved to second in the conference standings behind Owatonna 7-0-0. Next, Albert Lea hosts Kasson-Mantorville at noon Saturday.
