The first 2013-14 American Association of University Women meeting will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday for the group’s annual brunch at the America’s Best Value Inn. The menu for the morning brunch will be Quiche Lorraine, fresh fruit, petite cinnamon roll, small orange juice and coffee.

The cost of the brunch will be $15.

The speaker will be Dr. Della Simmons, who is an optometrist at Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea. Simmons got her bachelor’s degree at Ball State University in Muncie, Ind., which is where she grew up. She followed that by attending Indiana University earning her Doctorate of Optometry. Originally working part-time in a private practice in Owatonna and part-time in a commercial practice in Albert Lea, she decided she liked the area and would like to stay around her. She was then hired by the Albert Lea clinic in 1999, now known as the eye services department of Mayo Health Clinic System in Albert Lea and Austin. She practices primary care optometry, which involves seeing patients of all ages for routine exams but also treating eye diseases and ocular emergencies, such as foreign bodies.
