MINNEAPOLIS — A Hennepin County grand jury convenes in the shooting death of a man who struggled with Minneapolis police officers.

The grand jury will begin hearing testimony Thursday in the death of 22-year-old Terrance Franklin. He died last May from multiple gunshot wounds after scuffling with officers in the basement of a Minneapolis home. Police say Franklin grabbed for an officer’s gun during the struggle and was shot. Franklin’s family disputes the police account.

The attorney for the Franklin family, Mike Padden, said police are trying to cover their tracks for a badly botched confrontation. Two police officers were injured when gunshots were fired.

The grand jury hearing is closed. If testimony doesn’t end today, the grand jury will reconvene next Thursday.
