Homeless man struck, killed by car in Bemidji

BEMIDJI — A homeless man who recently was featured in a newspaper series has died after being struck by a car in Bemidji.
Police say 54-year-old Andrew Willard Reed of Bemidji was pronounced dead just before 5 a.m. Sunday. Police say Reed died of multiple head injuries.
Police said the driver said he did not see Reed until the impact. Police said Reed was wearing dark clothes and was standing on the center dividing line.
Bemidji Police Chief Mike Mastin said the driver passed a breath test and showed no signs of impairment. Authorities are not pursuing charges.
Reed was one of several homeless men and women featured in a series of Pioneer articles on homelessness in Bemidji.
