AUSTIN — Residents had one more option for food over their lunch hours and through the afternoon Tuesday.

Jimmy John’s sandwich shop, which announced several months ago it was opening a store in Austin, officially unlocked the doors for the public shortly after noon Tuesday. Owner Jason Kerr is excited, along with customers who waited outside for the doors to unlock on Tuesday.

“We’re excited to be in Austin,” Kerr said, who is happy with the location, nestled in with Hy-Vee, Walmart and other businesses along 18th Avenue NW.

Kerr said the area is easy to get in and out of, and the drive-through should flow well. Kerr said about 28 employees are already onboard, about 25 of them from Austin. Still, Kerr seeks a few more delivery drivers and is waiting to receive approval on more signage.

The business is ready to serve Austin with in-store, drive-through, delivery and catering service.
