“We controlled play especially in the second half, but we’re not rewarding ourselves to the extent that our efforts reflect,” Albert Lea head coach Rick Barnhill said. “We leave the door slightly ajar, and teams are making themselves at home in our kitchen.”

Rochester John Marshall scored first, but a goal by Becca Dup tied the game at 1. Megan Kortan scored 8 minutes, 22 seconds before the half to give the Tigers their first lead.

Rochester John Marshall tied the game at two early in the second half, but Albert Lea re-captured the lead 3-2 on a goal by Brooke Hanson. Dup and Kortan scored again to give the Tigers some breathing room.

“Brooke and Megan both have high athletic IQs and can change the score in a hurry with their collective determination,” Barnhill said. “Becca Dup continues to develop and play with the heart of a lion.”

Hannah Savelkoul led the Tigers with two assists. Anna Anderson, Grace Gjersvik and Dup each had one assist.

Next, Albert Lea (7-3) will host Rochester Mayo (5-3-1) at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Albert Lea’s junior varsity team won 7-2 and moved to 7-1 on the season.
