MINNEAPOLIS — The Minneapolis School Board has approved a settlement in a lawsuit brought by young mothers who were taught by unlicensed teachers.

More than 600 students would share more than $400,000 to further their education under the settlement that still needs approval in Hennepin County District Court.

Broadway High School serves girls who dropped out of school and then returned as young mothers. A district investigation found 13 people taught students at Broadway without having the proper teaching license.

Superintendent Brenda Johnson said the settlement would help the 657 students who attended Broadway from 2008 to 2011 achieve their educational goals.
