DULUTH — Brush and wood waste from Wisconsin has been banned at a Duluth waste center.

The ban was imposed in recent days to curtail the spread of emerald ash borer, which was recently discovered in Superior.

In a statement, Marianne Bohren, executive director of the Western Lake Superior Sanitary District, said she had no choice to place the temporary ban because it’s difficult for busy staff to distinguish between tree species when they arrive.

She says the ban will help Wisconsin reduce the devastating impacts of emerald ash borer and prevent it from spreading into other areas of the region.

The state of Wisconsin has quarantined all ash logs, ash by-products and hardwood firewood, to prohibit its transfer out of the quarantined area.
