STILLWATER — A Minnesota woman has been convicted a second time of fatally stabbing her newborn daughter.
But this time, Nicole Beecroft won’t face a life sentence.
Washington County Chief Judge John C. Hoffman issued his verdict Friday in Beecroft’s retrial.
Beecroft was 17 when she gave birth at her Oakdale home in April 2007, stabbed the infant and placed the body in a trash can. She was found guilty of murder and sent to prison for life.
But her conviction and sentence were overturned last year when the Minnesota Supreme Court said Beecroft’s right to due process was violated. Beecroft has maintained the baby was stillborn.
Hoffman found Beecroft guilty of second-degree murder, saying the evidence did not prove premeditation beyond a reasonable doubt.
