The Albert Lea volleyball team snapped Mankato West’s 17-game winning streak on Tuesday and gave the Scarlets their first Big Nine Conference loss of the season.
“We were extatic,” Albert Lea head coach Lisa Deyak said. “Our team had an amazing night.”
The Tigers (12-5 overall, 4-2 Big Nine) jumped to a two-game lead, lost Game 3 25-19. However, Albert Lea finished off the Scarlets 25-22 in Game 4 to seal the win.
Outside hitter Annie Ladwig led the Tigers with 21 kills, middle hitter Kassi Hardies added five kills and Bryn Woodside earned a team-high 46 assists.
“Bryn was connecting with everyone,” Deyak said. “That’s huge. She did a really good job of utilizing our middle hitters.”
To stop Mankato West, the Tigers’ back row had to handle spikes from Molly Lohman, who has committed to the University of Minnesota to play volleyball.
“Camryn (Keyeski) had some digs that were absolutely phenomenal,” Deyak said. “She didn’t let many go.”
