Americana music coming to A.L.

Mudcat & the Bottom Feeders will rock the Lighthouse this weekend.

James Grant, aka Mudcat, is a singer/songwriter who has been performing Americana music since 1963. From Bob Dylan to the Delta blues, he performs with guitar, harmonica and vocals with passion. The band also includes Tom Moncrieff on bass and vocals and Allen Neuman on drums. The trio performs original songs along with new takes on familiar tunes.

Tickets are $15 in advance at Marshall Street Music, Hy-Vee or Stadheim Jewelers in Albert Lea and at Coffee House on Main in Austin. Tickets are available at the door for $20.

The concert is at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. The Lighthouse Event Center is at 621 Marshall St. in Albert Lea.

 

Friday

• The Leif Eriksson banquet and celebration of the Sons of Norway Normanna Lodge No. 52 will start with a social time at 6 p.m. at the Freeborn County Historical Museum. A dinner will be at 6:30 p.m.; menu includes chicken breast, garlic mashed potatoes, mixed vegetables, tapioca salad, dessert, rolls and coffee. Cost is $15 per person. There will be entertainment following the dinner. The public is invited to attend; call 826-2176 or 256-4780 to make a reservation

• Albert Lea Community Theatre presents “The Fox on the Fairway” at 7:30 p.m. at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students.

• Albert Lea Civic Music hosts its second concert of the 2013-14 season at 7:30 p.m. at Albert Lea High School. The concert is a tribute to Nat King Cole with Allan Harris performing. Tickets are available by season ticket only, which are $85 for a family, $40 for adults and $10 for students.

 

Saturday

• The Albert Lea Farmers Market will be open from 9 a.m. to noon at the Northbridge Mall parking lot.

• Lunder Lutheran Church holds a salad luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $6 for adults, $3 for children and free for children age 5 and younger.

• Ascension Lutheran Church will celebrate its 50th anniversary from 3 to 6 p.m., and at 4:30 p.m. there will be music by the Gloryland Gospel Band.

• Albert Lea Community Theatre presents “The Fox on the Fairway” at 7:30 p.m. at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students.

• The Lighthouse Event Center will host music by Mudcat & the Bottom Feeders at 7:30 p.m.

 

Sunday

• Albert Lea’s Masonic Lodge hosts an amaranth pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Menu includes pancakes, eggs, sausage, orange juice and coffee. Donations will be accepted. Funds raised go to area scholarships. Albert Lea’s cross country team will wait tables at the breakfast.

• Alden’s Redeemer Lutheran Church hosts an annual harvest dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Alden-Conger School cafeteria. Menu includes turkey and dressing, mashed potatoes, corn, rolls, cranberry salads and desserts. Cost is $10 for adults, $5 for ages 5 to 12 and free for ages 4 and younger. Carry out and delivery orders are available. Funds raised go to the church’s property project. Thrivent Financial for Lutherans will provide supplemental funds.
