Animal lovers and a local photographer have teamed up for an unconventional fundraiser for the Freeborn County Humane Society.

Since the beginning of September, Albert Lean Holly Page, owner of Timeless Photography, has organized a series of photoshoots featuring Humane Society volunteers and community members with animals around the county.

Some of the animals featured are dogs and cats at the shelter, while others are animals that have been adopted or belong to community members.

The end product will be a calendar called The Dolls & Gents of 2014.

“I’m hoping this reaches a different audience and pulls in more awareness,” Page said. “There are many opportunities to help, whether it be through time or money.”

Page and the others in the calendar are volunteering their time for the effort, and the calendars are being printed at Jensales in Manchester.

“I think it’s fantastic,” said Humane Society Director Christa DeBoer. “I’ve seen samples of the pictures from each of the sessions, and I think they’re great.”

DeBoer said the process has been fun.

A release party for the calendars is slated from 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 7 at 112 on Broadway in downtown Albert Lea.

There, the calendars will be available for purchase for $20 each and people being featured will be on hand for autographs.

People who want to order calendars ahead of time can send checks for them to the Freeborn County Humane Society and pick them up at the release party or the following week at the shelter, Page said.

“It’s single-handedly the coolest project I’ve ever worked,” she said. “It’s nice to work with people who have the same love for animals.”

Page, who recently moved back to Albert Lea from the Twin Cities, has had Timeless Photography for about three years. She has an interest in wildlife and nature photography but also shoots family portraits.

More information about the calendars can be found by visiting Pinups for Paws-MN on Facebook.

After the release party, the calendars will be for sale at the Humane Society shelter, 101 James Ave. The shelter is open from 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, from noon to 5 p.m. Fridays and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays.
