Interstate system pushed by GOP

Wayne Thorson writes quite frequently sending letters to the Albert Lea Tribune. In at least four of those letters he has stated no one can prove the Republican Party has done anything that would benefit the general public. I am submitting data that refutes that statement.

The building of the Interstate Highway System through the entire United States was perhaps the greatest jobs producer of any project in our time. This project was done under the recommendation of Republican President Dwight Eisenhower. The total cost of the project was $50 billion and was completed in a little more than four years.

If I were to list all of the things that have come about because of the National Interstate and Defense Highways Act, it would take pages. But the beautiful thing about this law is that it is ongoing. Even President Barack Obama is thankful for the Interstate Highway System. Almost every speech he gives in which he is pleading for more funds, he mentions that he needs it for “roads and bridges.”
