Skate park issue needs addressing

Mr. Stan Sevaldson had a fine idea for the young people of Albert Lea — a skateboard park, supervised by volunteering adults. Now, years later, said skateboard park has outlived its location at City Beach, due to no supervision.

There are few skateboarders. Many riders of bicycles and scooters have overtaken with fighting between groups and ages, but most of all the noise and foul language. The signage says 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. — that is not even recognized. Use can start at daybreak and continue into the late hours.

It’s my understanding that the Albert Lea Parks and Recreation Advisory Board has voted and passed two times to relocate the park. Why has this not happened? It’s definitely time to relocate the park to a nonresidential area.

Please clean up the area so families can enjoy City Beach without the noise and vulgar language. Needless to say, living in the area will become a lot more enjoyable.

I sincerely hope our mayor, City Council and city manager can rectify this problem.
