DULUTH — A former Little League baseball coach from Duluth has been sentenced to nearly 13 years in prison after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting two preteen boys.

Judge Heather Sweetland on Monday sentenced 48-year-old Peter Jay Olson to the minimum sentence recommended under state guidelines.

Prosecutors argued for a longer sentence of about 18 years, while Olson’s attorney sought a sentence below state guidelines.

Before sentencing, Olson apologized, saying he feels “so bad” for what he’s done.

Olson pleaded guilty last month to two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct. Several other less-serious charges were dropped as part of a plea deal.

Olson coached both boys in the Lake Park Little League in Duluth.
