A fire was reported at 9:17 p.m. Sunday at a house at 407 E. Third St.
Albert Lea Fire Department Capt. Scott Hanna said the owners of the house came home and found smoke in the house and the smoke alarms going off.
The fire began from two extension cords that melted together and overloaded the system, Hanna said. A small area of carpet was damaged and there was minor smoke in the house.
