Freeborn County commissioners on Tuesday approved salary increases for both elected officials and non-union county employees in 2014.
Salaries for the commissioners will stay steady for a third year at $22,674.
The commissioners approved a 2 percent increase in the salaries of non-union employees and the following salaries for elected officials:
• $98,736 for County Attorney Craig Nelson. This was an increase over his 2013 salary of $96,800.
• $60,025 for County Recorder Kelly Callahan. Callahan received $58,150 in 2013.
• $84,670 for County Sheriff Bob Kindler. This was an increase over his 2013 salary of $81,850.
• $64,320 for Auditor Treasurer Pat Martinson. She received $62,500 this year.
Commissioner Chris Shoff said Freeborn County is one of a few — if not the only — county in the state where its commissioners do not receive per diem pay.
County Administrator John Kluever said the 2 percent increase for non-union employees is the same increase approved at a prior meeting for employees with the Teamsters union and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees union.
