Nile Heilman, 75, Albert Lea

Funeral services for Nile Dugan Heilman of Albert Lea will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church, Albert Lea. The Rev. Al Stoa will officiate. Interment will be in Lakewood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea, and one hour before services at the church.
Nile died on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013, at St. John’s Lutheran Community in Albert Lea. He was 75.
He was born on Nov. 9, 1937, in Albert Lea, the son of Merle and Lillian (Wangen) Heilman. The family moved to the Minneapolis and St. Paul areas, and Nile graduated from St. Paul Park High with the class of 1957. He had participated in football, hockey and track.
He and his dad worked as cooks in a metropolitan restaurant and then returned to Albert Lea, where together, they cooked at the Skyline Supper Club.
He married Janet Boelke on May 15, 1971.
Later in his career he cooked at the Albert Lea Inn, now Hotel Midwestern, and then worked at Walmart for several years before retiring.
He was a member of First Lutheran Church.
He was a very avid sports fan, enjoyed participating in his younger years and keeping up with the Minnesota Gophers and other professional teams throughout the years.
He enjoyed fishing, camping and traveling up north.
Nile is survived by his son, Jason Heilman, and his wife, Frances, of Albert Lea; brother-in-law, Richard Boelke, and his wife, Frieda, of Albert Lea; aunt, Lorraine Provo of Albert Lea; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet, on March 9, 2012; his parents
Merle and Lillian Heilman; his father-in-law and mother-in-law Clarence and Catherine Boelke; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Roger and Zetta Boelke.
