GRAND RAPIDS — A 12-year-old boy collapsed during a basketball game at a Baxter school and later died.

Police were called to Forestview Middle School about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday where the boy from Grand Rapids was playing in a 7th-grade basketball game and collapsed.

Medical staff in attendance at the game performed CPR and the boy was taken to Essential Health-St. Joseph’s Medical Center where he died a short time later.

The Ramsey County medical examiner will conduct an autopsy. The boy has not been identified.
