Esther Van Ravenhorst, 93, Albert Lea

Memorial services for Esther Van Ravenhorst, 93, of Albert Lea, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home. The Rev. Roger Davies will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Bayview and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Online condolences are welcome at www.bayviewfuneral.com.
Esther died on Monday, Dec. 9, 2013, at St. John’s Lutheran Community.
Esther Berniece (Miers) Van Ravenhorst was born on June 3, 1920, in Hillman, the daughter of Henry and Anna (Festing) Miers. She attended country school in Morrison, County. Esther married Dick Van Ravenhorst on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, 1941, in Geneva. Six children were born in this marriage. They farmed in Freeborn County until 1982 when they moved into Clarks Grove. Esther was a gardener and did many crochet projects which she loved giving away.
Survivors include her children Dorothy Young of Granite Falls, Anna Lee Heemsbergen of Albert Lea, Gladys (Ralph) Schroht of Owatonna, Carol (Donn) Riskedahl of Clarks Grove, Steven (Debi) Van Ravenhorst of Clarks Grove and Brian (Mary) Van Ravenhorst of Northfield; grandchildren Douglas, Elizabeth, Marie (Matt), Martin, Annette (Brian), Roger (Michelle), Kia (Darin), Cindy (Jon), Chan (Lisa), Jade (Ashley), Hilari (Paul) and Mathew (Tisha); 23 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Esther was preceded in death by her husband, Dick; her parents Henry and Anna; sons-in-law Richard Young and John Heemsbergen; granddaughter, Berniece Whelan; grandson-in-law, Duane Raney; six brothers; four sisters; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
