Laurell Davis, 85, Glenville

Laurell DuWayne Davis, 85, of rural Glenville, died on Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013, at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Deer Creek Valley Lutheran Church, rural Glenville, where he was a lifelong member. The Rev. Ronald Meyers will be officiating. Burial will be in London-Deer Creek Cemetery, rural Northwood.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home in Northwood and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
Laurell was born on June 3, 1928, the son of Clyde and Corinne (Hendrickson) Davis. Laurell was a lifelong resident of Freeborn County; living the majority of his life on the farm he grew up on. He attended rural country schools and was a graduate of Northwood High School. On June 3, 1952, he was united in marriage to Clarice Lorraine Reyerson at Silver Lake Lutheran Church in rural Northwood. Laurell was drafted into the United States Army and served from 1954 to 1956. After his discharge, he returned home back to the farm. His love for his wife, Clarice, his family and Holstein cows was very evident throughout his life.
Laurell was very active in his community throughout his life. He was on the Deer Creek Cheese Factory Board, the American Dairy Association (ADA) Board along with Clarice; the London Township Board, the London-Deer Creek Cemetery Board, the Glenville School Board for 12 years, was Sunday school superintendent, Sunday school teacher, sang in the church choir and also served on the church council for many years at Deer Creek Valley Lutheran Church and was superintendent of the dairy barn at the Freeborn County Fair.
Laurell is survived by his wife, Clarice; five children Layne (Carol) Davis of Albert Lea, Lance (Sharon) Davis of Glenville, Brenda (Eric) Strenge of New Richland, Brian (Peggy) Davis of Glenville and Donna Davis of Glenville; 11 grandchildren Kristine (Nathan) Wolff, Kayla (Jake) Kral, Kyle (Krystle) Davis, Randene and Kendra Davis, Laura, Megan and Katie Manthey and Ethan Strenge, Samantha and Logan Davis; two great-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Margie (Curtis) Davis and Marian Trytten; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Alton, Curtis and Emery; and sister, Yvonne Tews; brothers-in-law Leonard Tews and Manford Trytten; and sisters-in-law Arliss Davis and Clarice L. Davis.
