Marilyn Amerson, 82, Rose Creek

Marilyn J. Amerson, 82, of Rose Creek and formerly of Austin, died on Saturday evening, Dec. 14, 2013, at St. Mark’s Home in Austin.
Marilyn was born in Hayward on June 5, 1931, to Harvey and Agnes (Jensen) Heegard. She attended and graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1949. Marilyn married Travis Amerson in 1951 in Germany and later divorced. She served her country in the U.S. Army as a surgical technician.
After her military service, she continued her work in Minneapolis and at St. Olaf Hospital in Austin. Marilyn lived in many other areas and worked in various capacities. She has lived in Texas, Albert Lea and Rose Creek. In Austin, she worked at the Senior Center, Vacuum Center and was a police dispatcher for the police department for eight years. Marilyn was very proud of her military background. She was a member of the American Legion.
Marilyn had a terrific sense of humor, loved Christmas and flowers. Her family members knew her as “Auntie M.”
Marilyn is survived by her sons Tommy (Candy) Amerson of Independence, Mo., and Greg Amerson of Grand Rapids; daughter, Lori Amerson, of Austin; sisters Jeanette Godtland of Albert Lea, Delores (Howard) Petersen of Whiting and Lois (Roger) Bailey of Glenville; grandsons Christopher and Garrett; along with many nieces and nephews.
Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents; brothers Luverne and Darrel Heegard; sisters-in-law Mona Hammer and Shirley Heegard; and a brother-in-law, Ellsworth Godtland.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Mayer Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Steffes officiating. Visitation will start at 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday. Interment will be at Graceland Cemetery in Albert Lea with military graveside rites.
