The New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva wrestling team took third place in a six-team tournament Saturday at St. James.
“Last year, we were fifth at this same tournament, and this is a perfect example of making improvements,” said NRHEG head coach Shawn Larson.
The Panthers had one champion, five runners-up and two third-place finishers.
Dillon Parpart of NRHEG remained unbeaten in the 170-pound weight class, Larson said. Parpart was the Tribune’s football All-Area Player of the Year. He rushed for 1,495 yards.
Earning second-place finishes for the Panthers were Tyler Logan at 160 pounds, Nick Bartness at 182 pounds, Keith Maxon at 195 pounds and Zeke Erickson at 220 pounds. NRHEG’s third-place finishers were Matthew Butler at 106 pounds and Cordell Peterson at 120 pounds.
“We were really happy to have six of our wrestlers in the finals,” Larson said. “Overall we had a good day.”
Next, NRHEG hosts Medford at 7 p.m. Thursday.
