The New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva wrestling team went 2-0 Thursday at Mankato.
The Panthers beat Mankato West 44-27 and Northfield 52-27.
“We are wrestling with a little intensity, and whether we are winning or losing, we’re smiling,” NRHEG head coach Shawn Larson said.
Against Mankato West, NRHEG won two of the first six weight classes but bounced back by winning the next seven matches.
Five Panthers won by fall: Cole Staloch at 113 pounds, Jet Wayne at 152 pounds, Dillon Parpart at 170 pounds, Matt Jensen at 195 pounds and Zeke Erickson at 220 pounds. Erickson pinned Mankato West’s Jacob Viehweg in 37 seconds for the Panthers’ fastest fall.
Against Northfield, NRHEG started and ended strong. It built a 22-3 lead through the 132-pound weight class, and after the Raiders won the next three matches, the Panthers responded by winning five of the next six matches.
Six NRHEG wrestlers won by fall: Palmer Peterson at 120 pounds, Tyler Logan at 160 pounds, Parpart, Keith Maxon at 195 pounds, Zeke Erickson, and Todd Erickson at 285 pounds. Todd Erickson earned the Panthers’ fastest fall of the evening by winning in 14 seconds.
“We had many good individual efforts,” Larson said. “Dillon Parpart and Tyler Logan each had great nights going 2-0 on the night.”
Parpart pinned both of his opponents, and Logan won by major decision and by fall.
“We were able to use 19 different wrestlers in two dual meets, giving valuable experience to some of our guys,” Larson said. “We’re happy with the results, though we’ll continue to work on improving.
