Kayla Koenecke, the daughter of 1980 Albert Lea High School graduate Lisa Koenecke and Greg Koenecke of Delano, was named to the All-American volleyball team for the fourth time, according to a press release.
Koenecke played for Concordia University in St. Paul, and the team won its seventh consecutive Division II national championship. Koenecke and three of her teammates earned All-Tournament honors at the postseason tournament in Cedar Rapids.
The Golden Bears outside hitter played every minute of every match since starting as a freshman and was named Concordia’s Athlete of the Week 15 times. Concordia won its conference championship and national championship each season with a combined record of 134-13.
Also an exceptional student, Koenecke earned Academic All-American status each year of college with a 3.6 GPA. She is majoring in marketing and plans to graduate in May of 2014. She is the granddaughter of Dave and Elaine Long and the niece of Dave Long Jr., all from Albert Lea.
