The streaks continued.

In the midst of a five-game-losing streak, the Albert Lea girls’ hockey team was unable to snap Rochester John Marshall’s 13-game winning streak.

The Rockets defeated the Tigers 5-1 Thursday at Albert Lea City Arena.

Katie Schwarz was busy in the goal. She stopped 37 shots, while the Rochester John Marshall goalie faced fewer than half as many attempts.

“Katie made some big saves,” said Albert Lea head coach Laura Hillman. “The team played very well and has a lot of positives to take away.”

Albert Lea’s goal was scored in the second period when Sydney Overgaard found Sarah Savelkoul who found the net.

Goals have been hard to come by for the Tigers. They scored three goals in the last four games combined, so Hillman said she made some changes up front.

“It was fun to see both lines moving the puck around setting up plays,” she said. “I hope that continues into our last game.”

Next, Albert Lea (7-16 overall, 5-11 Big Nine Conference) will host Rochester Mayo in its season finale at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
